QUEST LABS · CAL TALE
Terms of Use
Cal Tale is operated by Quest Labs: Maloney Media Pty Ltd (ACN 622 109 522) as trustee for Maloney Family Trust (ABN 45 178 962 621), trading as Quest Labs in Australia. In these terms, “Quest Labs”, “we”, “us” and “our” refer to that operator. Contact us at hello@caltale.app.
These terms describe use of Cal Tale and our related services. The iOS application licence is governed by Apple’s Standard End User Licence Agreement unless a separate custom licence is expressly supplied: https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/. These service terms do not replace that licence or Apple’s applicable purchase terms.
Before you start
- Cal Tale is a subscription calorie and nutrition tracker. Nutrition estimates and goal dates are approximate.
- Your diary and Quest progress are saved locally, with no Cal Tale cloud backup in this version.
- Apple handles App Store billing. Trial offers depend on eligibility and the offer actually shown before purchase.
- Quest progress rewards consistent tracking and explicit Finish behaviour, not eating less or reaching a calorie target.
1. What Cal Tale provides
Cal Tale helps you record food, calories, macros, water and weight, view progress and build a tracking routine with Cal and the Quest system. It is a general information and self-tracking tool. It does not diagnose or treat a medical condition or provide individual medical or dietetic advice.
Food recognition, portion sizes, nutrition values, meal scores, suggested targets and goal dates are estimates. AI and food databases can be incomplete or wrong. Review ingredients, portions and nutrition before saving or relying on a result. Food recognition is not an allergen or food-safety check, and goal dates are not promises of weight change.
The automated target estimator supports adults aged 18–100 within its supported input ranges. Its formulas do not cover children, pregnancy, breastfeeding or individual medical requirements. A valid app result is not medical clearance. Seek advice from an appropriately qualified health professional about your individual needs.
Quest rewards are based on the app’s tracking rules. They have no cash value and are not earned by weight loss, calorie restriction or meeting nutrition targets.
2. Subscriptions, trials and cancellation
Cal Tale requires an active subscription or eligible active trial for its subscription features, including logging. There is no free manual-logging tier in the current offering. Available plans, local prices, billing periods, taxes and trial terms are shown in the app and Apple’s purchase confirmation before you subscribe. The price shown for your storefront applies; a monthly equivalent for an annual plan is a comparison, not monthly billing.
Where offered, the annual plan may include a three-day free trial for eligible users. Eligibility is determined through Apple and our billing integration. Do not assume you have a trial unless the purchase confirmation explicitly includes it. A trial reminder is optional and does not determine whether you will be charged.
App Store subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled under Apple’s applicable terms. A trial converts to the paid subscription shown at purchase unless cancelled in time. Apple advises cancelling a free or discounted trial at least 24 hours before it ends. Manage cancellation in your device’s Settings → your Apple Account → Subscriptions, or visit https://apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions. See Apple’s instructions at https://support.apple.com/en-au/118428.
Deleting Cal Tale, turning off notifications or deleting local records does not cancel a subscription. Notification delivery is not guaranteed; check the expiry and renewal details shown by Apple. Use Restore purchases in the app when needed, using the Apple Account associated with the purchase.
Apple processes App Store payments and refund requests. You can request an eligible refund through https://reportaproblem.apple.com/. Nothing in these terms limits a refund or other remedy you are entitled to under applicable consumer law.
3. Your information and local storage
You retain your rights in the content you provide. You permit us and the relevant providers to process content as needed to provide the features you request, as described in our Privacy Policy. Only submit content you are entitled to use.
Your diary, saved photos, preferences and Quest progress are saved on your device. There is no Cal Tale account, cloud diary sync or recovery service in this version. Deleting the app, clearing storage, losing your device or changing devices may result in loss of local data. Restoring a subscription does not restore a diary or Quest progress.
Food analysis, subscription verification, barcode lookups and some other features require an internet connection and external providers. Provider availability and data handling are described in the Privacy Policy. Local storage is not an encrypted medical-record vault.
4. Responsible use and service availability
Use Cal Tale lawfully and do not interfere with its security or other users’ access. Do not bypass subscription verification or usage limits, submit malicious requests, misuse provider services or upload content that infringes others’ rights.
Analysis is subject to request limits and service capacity; a subscription does not promise unlimited AI processing. Features may be temporarily unavailable for maintenance, provider outages, connectivity problems or abuse prevention. We may restrict misuse of the online services and will comply with applicable consumer obligations when doing so.
We may update the app, estimates, supported features or these terms. Material subscription changes remain subject to applicable law and Apple’s purchase rules. Updated terms will be posted here with a revised date, with additional notice where required.
5. TestFlight versions
TestFlight builds are pre-release software. Features may change, builds may expire, and errors or loss of local data can occur. Apple’s TestFlight terms and testing rules also apply. Information about TestFlight is available at https://developer.apple.com/testflight/.
Use the purchase confirmation and Apple’s testing information to distinguish beta purchase testing from a subscription in a public App Store release. A beta trial or entitlement does not promise free access to a future public release.
6. Consumer rights and responsibility
Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies a consumer guarantee, right or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded, including under the Australian Consumer Law or mandatory laws that apply where you live. Any applicable statutory rights take priority over an inconsistent statement in these terms.
Subject to those rights and Apple’s applicable licence, we do not guarantee that estimates are accurate, that an online service will always be available, or that using Cal Tale will produce a particular health, weight or habit outcome. You remain responsible for reviewing your entries and deciding how to use the information. These terms do not exclude liability where doing so would be unlawful.
